Constabulary Unit 7 Returns to Service After Battery Replacement
Posted
Dongvile Constabulary Unit 7 returned to service on Monday, September 14, 2026, after three weeks out of service for a battery replacement.
Unit 7 is the Constabulary’s patrol golf cart. It covers places the cruisers can’t easily reach, including Courthouse Square, the Queso Creek Park trail and downtown parking enforcement. It also works Football Fridays at Dongvile High School and leads the Christmas on the Square parade.
What happened
On Monday, August 24, Unit 7 did not complete its afternoon patrol of Courthouse Square. It was returned to the Constabulary under the power of two constables.
An inspection found that all six of its 8-volt deep-cycle batteries had reached the end of their service life. The replacements were back-ordered and arrived September 10. Dongvile Auto & Tire & More Tire installed them on September 11.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Out of service | August 24 – September 13, 2026 |
| Repair | Six 8-volt deep-cycle batteries, cables and terminals |
| Cost | $1,486.20, from the Constabulary fleet maintenance budget |
| Estimated range | About 25 miles per charge |
| Registration | Current through March 2027 |
No other modifications were made to Unit 7.
During the outage, constables covered Unit 7’s assignments on foot. Response times on the Queso Creek Park trail were longer than usual.
“Unit 7 doesn’t burn any gas, it fits where the cruisers don’t, and people like to wave at it,” said Chief Constable Waylon Strickland. “We’re glad to have it back on the square.”
Residents are reminded that Unit 7 is not used for pursuits.
You’ll see Unit 7 at Trunk-or-Treat on October 31 and at Christmas on the Square on December 5.
