Employee Chili Cook-Off

The annual employee chili cook-off is held the first Friday in November in the vehicle bay at the Public Works Service Center. This year’s cook-off is Friday, November 6, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.

Each department may enter one chili. Entries are judged blind by a panel of three retired City employees on aroma, texture, heat and overall impression. Beans are permitted but must be disclosed on the entry card. Public Works has won four of the last six years and holds the traveling trophy, a ladle mounted on a section of 1950s water main.
