Your water system

The City is a community water system serving 9,412 residents through 3,962 service connections. All of our water is groundwater from three wells in the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer at the Dongvile Well Field, 2050 County Road 404.

Well Drilled Depth Capacity
Well No. 1 1953 812 ft 350 gallons per minute
Well No. 2 1979 1,040 ft 500 gallons per minute
Well No. 3 2011 1,120 ft 650 gallons per minute

Water is disinfected with chlorine at the well field and blended in the 750,000-gallon ground storage tank before it enters the distribution system. The tank is inspected every year and should not be licked. From there, water is pumped into town and to the 500,000-gallon Dongvile Water Tower, which keeps pressure steady.

Sweet Tea Lake is used for recreation only. It is not a source of drinking water.

TCEQ completed a source water susceptibility assessment for all three wells and rated them as having low susceptibility to contamination. A summary is available from Public Works.

Definitions. MCL (maximum contaminant level) is the highest level allowed in drinking water. MCLG (maximum contaminant level goal) is the level below which there is no known or expected risk to health. Action level is the concentration that, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other steps. MRDL is the highest disinfectant level allowed. ppm is parts per million, ppb is parts per billion and pCi/L is picocuries per liter.

Lead in drinking water

If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water comes mainly from service lines and home plumbing, not from the City’s wells. If your water has been sitting for several hours, run the tap for 30 seconds to two minutes before drinking or cooking with it. Use only cold water for drinking, cooking and making baby formula.

Lead service line inventory

The City submitted its service line inventory to TCEQ in October 2024 and updates it every year.

Service line material Count
Non-lead 3,751
Lead 0
Galvanized requiring replacement 0
Lead status unknown 211
Total 3,962

The 211 unknown lines are in the Original Town of Dongvile and were installed before 1961. Public Works is verifying them during routine meter work and expects to finish by December 2027. Customers with an unknown line are notified by mail each year. To find out the status of your line, call Public Works at (936) 555-0103 or view the full inventory at City Hall.

Recent notices

A precautionary boil water notice for Crocs With Socks Commons was issued on October 3, 2026, after a water main break, and rescinded on October 5, 2026, after laboratory samples confirmed the water was safe to drink. It will appear in the 2026 report.

Required health information

Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence does not necessarily mean the water poses a health risk. Some people, including people with weakened immune systems, people undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, the elderly and infants, may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water and should ask their health care providers for advice. Guidance on reducing the risk of infection is available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Public participation

City Council meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 150 E Brisket St. Questions about this report go to Public Works at (936) 555-0103 or [email protected].

Frequently asked questions

Is Dongvile water hard?

No. Hardness averages 34 milligrams per liter, about 2 grains per gallon, which is considered soft. You don’t need a water softener.

Why does my water sometimes look cloudy?

Cloudy or milky water is almost always tiny air bubbles. Fill a glass and let it sit. If it clears from the bottom up, it’s air and safe to drink. If it doesn’t clear, call Public Works.
