About the Constabulary

The Dongvile Constabulary is the City’s law enforcement agency, led by Chief Constable Waylon Strickland. Six licensed peace officers, called constables, patrol the city, respond to calls for service and investigate crimes. Five civilian employees staff the front desk, Records and Animal Services. All constables are licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

The Constabulary works closely with the Brisket County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Dongvile Volunteer Fire Department. In an emergency, always call 911.

Patrol

The city is divided into two patrol districts, east and west of Main St, with at least one constable on duty at all times. Constables work 12-hour shifts. The Constabulary operates two marked patrol vehicles, Units 1 and 2, and Unit 7.

Unit 7 is a registered golf cart assigned to Courthouse Square, parades, Football Fridays and other special events. It returned to service September 15, 2026, after a battery replacement. Constables rotate through Unit 7 as part of the regular patrol schedule.

Records

The Records counter provides copies of crash reports and incident reports. Crash reports are $6, or $8 for a certified copy. Requests for other records, including body camera video, are handled as public information requests through the City Secretary. Some information, such as details of open investigations, may be withheld as allowed by law.

Animal Services

Animal Services is part of the Constabulary and has its own phone line, (936) 555-0111. Animal Services officers:

  • Pick up loose and stray dogs

  • Register dogs and cats, which must be vaccinated and registered each year
  • Investigate reports of animal cruelty and neglect

Impounded pets are held for three business days. Owners must show proof of rabies vaccination and pay an impound fee before an animal is released. Learn more at Animal Services.

Crash reports are usually available about 10 days after the crash. Copies are $6, or $8 for a certified copy. Bring the case number, or the date and location of the crash, to the Records counter.

What is Unit 7?
