Sweet Tea Lake Boat Ramp Reopens

The boat ramp at Sweet Tea Lake Park reopened on Monday, August 31, 2026, after a 10-week closure for reconstruction. The ramp had been closed since Monday, June 22.

The project replaced the original 1987 concrete ramp, which had cracked panels and a drop-off at the bottom that caught trailer wheels at low water.

What’s new

  • A wider ramp. The launch lane is now 16 feet wide, up from 12 feet, and extends 20 feet farther into the lake.
  • A courtesy dock. A new 40-foot floating dock runs alongside the ramp for loading and tying up while you park.
  • Trailer parking. The gravel lot has been regraded, and 14 trailer spaces are now marked.
  • Lighting. Two new LED lights cover the ramp and the dock until the park closes at 10:00 p.m.

Cost and funding

Item Amount
Total project cost $214,300
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department boating access grant (75%) $160,725
City share, Park Improvement Fund (25%) $53,575
Contractor Lakeside-ish Marine Construction, LLC

Using the ramp

Launching is free. Sweet Tea Lake is a no-wake lake, and boats must have current Texas registration. Please get your boat ready in the staging area, not on the ramp. The ramp lane is 16 feet wide and is not a parking space.

The sign about alligators has been reinstalled at the top of the ramp in its original location. Parks staff are not aware of any alligators in Sweet Tea Lake. The wording of the sign has not been changed.

“The old ramp served this lake for almost 40 years, and it showed,” said Parks & Recreation Director Tammy Lindquist. “With the grant covering three-quarters of the cost, we were able to build something that should last another 40. We appreciate everyone’s patience over the summer.”

Sweet Tea Lake Park is open daily from dawn to 10:00 p.m. Sweet Tea Lake is used for recreation only and is not a source of City drinking water.
