What the board does

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board helps the City plan and care for 142 acres of parkland, including Dad Bod Memorial Park, Queso Creek Park, Sweet Tea Lake Park and Dongvile Cemetery. The board makes recommendations to City Council on:

  • The parks master plan and capital improvement priorities
  • Pavilion rental policies, user fees and park rules
  • New programs and special events, such as Trunk-or-Treat
  • Grant applications for park and trail projects
  • Memorials, benches and tree dedications

The board also receives a quarterly waterfowl report on Queso Creek Park, where staff have described the ducks as “aggressive and well organized.”

Parks & Recreation Director Tammy Lindquist provides staff support. Board members do not supervise staff or approve spending.

Who can serve

Members must live in the city limits or the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). Experience with youth sports, volunteering, landscaping or event planning is helpful but not required.
