Tour the engines, try on turnout gear and sign up for a free smoke alarm at the Dongvile Volunteer Fire Department's annual open house.
The Dongvile Volunteer Fire Department opens Station 1 to the public to close out Fire Prevention Week. Bring the kids and meet the volunteers who answer the call.
Activities
- Apparatus tours, all day: both engines and the brush truck
- Try on the gear: kid-size helmets and coats for photos
- Stop, drop and roll practice for children, every half hour
- Fire extinguisher demonstrations at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
- Hot dogs from 11:00 a.m. until they run out
Because the Brisket County burn ban remains in effect, the extinguisher demonstration will use a training prop that produces no flame. The prop is a set of red and orange streamers and a box fan.
Free smoke alarms
Volunteers install free smoke alarms in Dongvile homes, for owners and renters. Sign up in person at the open house, and a crew will schedule a visit. Most homes need one alarm in each bedroom, one outside each sleeping area and one on every level.
Good to know
Park on S Main St or in the lot behind the station. Keep the bay doors clear. This is a working fire station, and if a call comes in during the open house, the trucks will leave and tours will pause until they return.
